Savvy Parents' June Hols Game Plan (Save Your Sanity AND Your Petrol!)

Savvy Parents' June Hols Game Plan (Save Your Sanity AND Your Petrol!)

The mid-year school holidays are almost here (30 May - 28 June), which means four whole weeks of "Mum/Dad, I'm hungry" on repeat. The question isn't if you'll be eating out — it's where, and more importantly, how to plan your days without spending half your life (and petrol budget) stuck in traffic.

Four weeks. Twenty-nine days. Over 600 hours of potential "I'm bored" and "what's for lunch?" Between museum visits, playdates, enrichment classes, and just trying to tire them out enough for bedtime, you're going to need a solid lunch strategy that doesn't involve endless driving or settling for whatever's closest when everyone's already hangry.

With petrol prices at an all-time high and your patience running on fumes by Week Two, here's the smart parent's guide to June Holiday lunches: Quick pit stops that slot perfectly into days of running around town, and all-day destination spots where you can park once, eat well, and let the kids burn energy without you having to get back in the car.

PS: if you've gotten some inspiration and want to include one of these, the press kits can be accessed through the brand sub-headers!

CONVENIENT CENTRAL SPOTS: Perfect Pit Stops On Your Way
When you're bouncing between activities and need lunch that fits into the schedule, not the other way around

These are your tactical lunch stops: central locations that make sense when you're already in town for swimming lessons, the library, coding camps, or just trying to kill time between Point A and Point B. Grab a solid meal, recharge, move on with your day. No epic journeys required — and no hunger meltdowns.

BEDROCK BAR & GRILL – ORCHARD
Steak Frites Lunch in the Heart of Town
Location-wise, it doesn't get more convenient than Orchard Road. It’s where you can check everything off your errands list while the kids have a frisbee playdate at the Botanic Gardens/ attempt stunts at the Skate Park. And for that mid-day refuel session before their afternoon enrichment classes, Bedrock Bar & Grill, is right there at Pan Pacific Serviced Suites (and a stone’s throw from the Somerset MRT station), offering a proper lunch that is sorted in under two hours.

Available Monday to Thursday (except public holidays), 12pm-3pmBedrock Bar & Grill's weekday Steak Frites lunch ($68++ per person)might be designed for the pace of the workday, but it works just as well for families who need a quick, quality meal without the fuss. Start with freshly baked Flatbread with warm confit garlic and New Zealand butter, plus a Garden Salad to keep things balanced. Then choose your steak: 120-day Corn-fed Ribeye with generous marbling and robust flavour; or a tender, leaner 100-day Grain-fed Striploin. Both are grilled over Bedrock's signature applewood fire and served with Black Pepper Sauce and Café de Paris Sauce.

The genius part? Free-flow Truffle Parmesan Fries and Grilled Baby Gem. Kids love fries, and free-flow means no one's fighting over the last one. Dessert is a Flambé Sea Salt Brownie finished tableside with rum and served with vanilla ice cream — warm, gooey, and just theatrical enough to keep the kids entertained.

FIREPLACE BY BEDROCK – ONE HOLLAND VILLAGE
REAL Wood-Fired Burgers. No cap.
Whether you are visiting the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, exploring the southern stretch of the Rail Corridor at One-North, or making your way to the Science Centre in Jurong, One Holland Village offers an urban retreat for your West-side excursions. It is easy to get to, parking isn't a nightmare, and here you will find Fireplace by Bedrock: the laid-back, open wood-fired grill sibling of Bedrock, with a burger lunch menu that will have your kids swear off the fast food versions.

Available Monday to Saturday (except public holidays), 12pm-3pm, the menu is all about Real fire. Real burgers. Every burger ($18++ to $24++) is cooked over an open wood-fire grill, which means smoky, rustic flavours.

 The Lineup:

  • Fireplace Ultimate Burger ($24++) — Australian Wagyu patty (custom blend of chuck, brisket, short ribs, striploin), grilled pineapple, Monterey Jack cheese, hot honey ranch made with Lao Gan Ma chili oil, all in a vibrant beetroot bun. This is the showstopper.
  • Campfire Burger ($20++) — Flame-grilled Australian Wagyu, Monterey Jack, campfire sauce, soft potato bun. Classic done right.
  • Piggy Stack ($18++) — US pork patty with apple ketchup and pork belly jam (caramelized crispy pork belly + apple cider). Sweet, savory, unexpectedly good.
  • Talk of the Tongue ($22++) — Smoked beef tongue (24-hour brine, 4-hour slow cook), sauerkraut, Swiss cheese. For the adventurous eaters.
  • Dirty Duck ($22++) — 12-hour sous vide Irish duck with house spice powder and garlic breadcrumbs.
  • Grilled Catch ($20++) — Charred barramundi with zesty green tartar sauce (the lighter option that's still satisfying).

Notable sides: White Corn Ribs with smoked paprika butter, and crisp, addicting Duck Fat Potatoes. Dessert is an Old School Milo Banana ($11++): red skin bananas grilled over charcoal, served with vanilla custard and a dusting of Milo. It’s the nostalgic dessert you might be fighting your kids for.

The wood-fire element elevates it beyond fast food, and the portions are generous enough that everyone actually stays full. Plus, the casual-chic vibe means it's relaxed but still feels like a proper meal out. There’s even a breezy pet-friendly outdoor terrace, perfect for days out with the kids — and furkids.
